Celebrating 20 Years of the Fragile X Poker Run in Sparta, NC
This year’s 20th Annual Fragile X Poker Run was magnificent, marking two decades of community, camaraderie, and fundraising for FRAXA Research Foundation. Held once again at the Alleghany Inn in Sparta, North Carolina, the weekend was filled with laughter, music, and an unforgettable ride for Fragile X.
Organized by the ever-dedicated Jimmy and Dana Charlton, the event brought together familiar faces and new attendees from across the country, united in their support for Mikey and FRAXA's mission to find effective treatments and ultimately a cure for Fragile X syndrome. Katie Clapp, FRAXA's President and co-founder, and FRAXA Board Member Leslie Eddy were delighted to attend the 20th anniversary of this great event.
Music Performances That Lit Up the Fragile X Poker Run
The Friday night entertainment was nothing short of magical. With a last-minute change in the music lineup, two talented musicians, Chuck Bell on keyboard and Robb Foster on guitar, stepped in and created an unforgettable performance. Despite having never played together before, their incredible chemistry had the crowd raving that it was the best Friday night in Poker Run history. On Saturday night, crowd favorite Lasater Union from Winston-Salem, NC, returned for their fourth performance, once again delivering an outstanding show that had everyone on their feet.
A Heartfelt Tribute to Amit Yoran, Dedicated Supporter of the Fragile X Poker Run
This year’s event was held in loving memory of Amit Yoran, a cherished friend, supporter, and longtime donor to the Poker Run. Amit’s legacy was honored through heartfelt words shared by Kaitlin Seifert, daughter of Jimmy and Dana. Amit’s unwavering support for our family and the Poker Run has meant so much to us. Despite his demanding schedule and health struggles, he never missed a single Poker Run, always showing up for our family and the cause. His legacy will live on in our hearts, and we will forever cherish his friendship. Rest in peace, Amit. You will be deeply missed.
Alleghany Inn and Supporters Help Raise $25,000 for Fragile X Research
Thanks to the generosity of all involved, the event raised over $25,000 for Fragile X research. Special thanks to the Alleghany Inn, with John Kilmartin and his dedicated staff, for their unwavering support and for providing a seamless venue that made this weekend possible. From setting up canopies to securing local donations for the live auction, their commitment ensured a memorable event for all.

As the 20th Annual Fragile X Poker Run draws to a close, the Charltons reflect on the countless friendships and memories built over the years. For them, the event has become a treasured annual reunion, bringing together old friends, family, and new faces all united in support of FRAXA’s mission. "This weekend means so much to us. We are so grateful for the love and support from everyone in the community," shared Dana Charlton. "We look forward to seeing everyone again next year."
